Know your Element

Our physical body is composed of the five elements viz. Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Aakash. These elements are also known as the Panchtatvas or Panch mahabhootas.

The physical body has all these elements in different proportions and any of these can be dominant in a person’s body. This dominant element reflects as the body traits and tendencies. You can Know your Element from observation of your basic personality traits as described below.

Each element gives some characteristics to the physical features of a person.

From the type of some prominent features you can find out your dominant element.

Earth Element: Those with Earth element in dominance are of tolerant, dependable and stable nature. They have pragmatic approach towards general life issues.

Their physical body is solid with prominent abdomen, but relatively small hands and feet. Their face is generally round. They walk very steadily. Such persons have a mature and stable voice.

They are prone to ailments related to stomach, obesity and blood circulation especially during summer and rainy season.

Best Foods Earth Element Persons

Apples, apricots, cherries, figs, dates, grapes, papaya, peach, strawberry, beet, carrot, Swiss chard, cucumbers, eggplant, mushrooms, cabbage, parsnip, turnip and rutabaga (and the squash, potato and yam as mentioned above).
Many nuts are quite earthy. Sweet nuts include: chestnut, almond, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, coconut and walnut.

Water Element: Those with dominance of Water element have a physical body slightly broad at the hips, with deep set eyes, big ears and slightly greyish complexion. They have tendency to become plump with age. They are normally very peaceful, intuitive, sensitive and friendly.

They have a peculiar shine on their face and hands. Their face is usually free from any moles and spots.

During winters they are prone to back-ache, arthritis, diarrhoea and infertility.

Fire Element: Those with dominance of Fire element have s strong physical body. They have clear and slightly reddish complexion. They are generally very active, creative and easily excited. They are very passionate and radiate an aura of joy, strong drive, enthusiasm and initiative.

They usually don’t feel very healthy during very hot summer. They are prone to heart ailments, hypertension, stroke etc.

Air Element: Those with dominance of Air element have good intellect and a very active mind. They constantly generate with their thoughts waves of fantasy, curiosity and desires. They are very expressive and communicative. They are very practical minded.

They are prone to dryness of the skin, tissues and joints, obstructed blood flow, bloating, constipation, lethargy, insomnia, muscular spasms, emotional stagnancy, dry cough, etc.

Aakash Element: Those with dominance of this element have evolved awareness and curiosity to gain knowledge. They have great interests in music, arts, travelling and exploring.

They are prone to diseases related to hearing. Due to this element in excess one feels coldness. They are prone to diseases like osteoporosis and feeling chilly in winter especially in old age.

Know your Element to Know your Best Foods

The best food Items to strengthen your Basic Element are as follows.

For Earth Element Persons: Rice, wheat, barley, corn, amaranth, rye, spelt and oats. Other sweet earthy foods such as yam, sweet potato, squash and potato may be considered as well.

For Water Element Persons: Foods items that are purple, black or blue. Also, fresh fish and salted fish, salted meat, caviar and other fish eggs, shellfish of all kinds, pork, eggs, beans of all kinds, seaweed and sea vegetables, Soy Sauce and figs, blueberries, blackberries, eggplant, kale, wild rice, walnuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds are water foods.

For Fire Element Persons: All grains such as amaranth, barley, rice, oats, vegetables, and raw foods. Nuts and raw oils such as coconut oil, almond oil, sesame oil, and flax oil). Beans are good such as chickpeas, adzuki beans, and black lentils. Dark leafy greens such as kale, collards, chards, spinach, etc. are good.

For Air Element Persons: Foods which stimulate the circulation such as gingko, cayenne, garlic and ginger. Also light dishes such as crudités and shoots help in balancing the system. Raw dishes and dairy products, especially easily digestible foods like yoghurt help to reinforce the element of air. Plants which grow above the ground such as trees, shrubs and their flowers are also good.

For Aakash Element Persons: All food items with properties of smoothness, subtlety and softness are suitable.
