When the Nobel Committee announced the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, they said the following:The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize goes to a brave and dedicated advocate for peace—a woman who has kept the flame of democracy alive in a world that is getting darker.
Venezuelan politician María Corina Machado, also known as the “Iron Lady,” is an expert in finance and industrial engineering. In addition to being a political leader, she is a bold activist whose fight has inspired people all over the world.
The story of María Corina Machado starts with a normal family, but she quickly became well-known during the political turmoil in Venezuela. She has continuously pushed for democracy, freedom, and economic changes from the Hugo Chávez period to Nicolás Maduro’s authoritarian dictatorship. She is the National Coordinator for the liberal Vente Venezuela Party.
María Corina Machado was born on October 7, 1967, in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. She came from a wealthy and powerful family. She is the oldest of her four sisters. Her mother, Corina Parisca, was a psychotherapist, and her father, Henrique Machado Zuloaga, was a steel business mogul.
Her horoscope says that she was born with Virgo Navamsa and Capricorn as her rising sign. After finishing her early schooling in Caracas, she went to Dana Hall Boarding School in Wellesley, Massachusetts, USA.
Venus, the ruler of the fifth house, is in the eighth house on her birth chart, next to Jupiter, who is the natural significator of the fifth house and the ruler of the second and twelfth houses. She had the chance to study abroad because of this planetary conjunction.
After coming back from the US, María graduated from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Later, she got her master’s degree in finance from the Institute of Advanced Studies in Administration (IESA).
She worked for her family’s steel company, Sivensa, for most of her early adult life, but things changed for her in the 1990s because of Venezuela’s social problems and economic instability. In 1992, she started the Atenea Foundation, which helps street children in Caracas. She did this after seeing how bad things were for homeless children on the streets.
At that time, María was affected by Jupiter’s sub-period, which was focused on charitable and humanitarian work because it was in the eighth house and made a connection with the twelfth house. During Jupiter’s dasha, she gave up her normal business activities and completely focused on working for NGOs.
Venezuela became very divided after Hugo Chávez became president in 2002. I came to the conclusion that neutrality was no longer an option. She got into politics because Saturn was in the second house and Rahu–Ketu was in the tenth house.
She helped start Súmate, a non-governmental organization that fights for free and fair elections. It was founded in 2002. At that time, she and Rahu Antardasha were in charge of Venus Mahadasha.
Súmate played a big role in the failed 2004 recall vote against Chávez. As a result, María was threatened with death and called a traitor. She sent her kids to another country to keep them safe.
In 2010, she ran for the National Assembly and got the most votes ever. In parliament, she went straight to Chávez. This was a time when Mercury Antardasha and Venus Mahadasha were in sync.
After Chávez died in 2013, Nicolás Maduro became president, and repression got worse. In 2014, María started the “La Salida” (The Exit) movement, which called for Maduro to step down. In response, the government used violence, kept her out of the Assembly, and stepped up its persecution.
After that, she started Vente Venezuela, a liberal political party that supports reforms, free markets, and getting people involved in politics. After 2014, the government got even more violent. She kept getting threats, and her family’s property was taken. People called her the “Iron Lady” because she was so strong.
He became the opposition’s presidential candidate in 2023 after receiving more than 90% of the vote in the opposition primary elections. The Supreme Court, however, said she couldn’t run for office. Later, she backed Edmundo González.
She took part in large-scale demonstrations in Caracas in August 2024. Nicolás Maduro was elected president in the 2025 general elections. The administration violently put an end to the protests that the opposition started and claimed were caused by electoral fraud.
On October 10, 2025, the Nobel Committee gave Corina Machado the Nobel Peace Prize, which brought her international attention for her decades-long work.
Saturn’s sub-period in the Moon Mahadasha is affecting her right now, and it keeps pushing her to fight against injustice. It is anticipated that she will amplify anti-authoritarian movements.
She should do very well in politics during Mercury Antardasha in Moon Mahadasha, which starts in June 2026.
