According to Vasturaj Vallabh, Leo constellation (singhasth), Vyatipat, Vaidhriti, Dagdhtithi, Guru 9Jupiter), Shukra (Venus) when set, weak moon, Rikta tithi (4/9/14) are not auspicious for starting house construction work or any other good and auspicious work. Some scholars are of the opinion that if Jupiter or Venus are set (Tara) it doesn’t matter.

1. Sun in the Aries (Mesh) Rashi 14 April to 13 May-very good.

2. Sun in the Taurus (Vrish) Rashi 14 May to 13 June-increase in wealth.

Therefore the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th i.e., Mithun (Gemini), Vigro (Kanya), Saggitarius (Dhanu) and Pisces (Meen) Rashies are not suitable and auspicious for starting house construction, and the work should not be started during the period sun is in these Mahurat Rashis.

Among the months, Baisaakh, Shravan, Margshirsh Magh and Falgun are good for the work. Bhadrapad and Kartik are also normally permissible.

Construction work should be started on the dates (tithis) 2,3,5,6,7,10,11,12,13,15 and the 1st of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight).

Prohibited date – Starting the construction work on the dates 1,4,8,9,14 and 30 (Amavas) brings Poverty, loss of wealth, loss of money, death of wife, fear from the rulers. Therefore work should not be started on these dates.

Constellations – The Nakshatras Rohini, Mrigshira, Chitra, Hast, Swati, Anuradha, Uttarashdah, Uttar Bhadrapad, Uttar Falguni, Dhanshtha, Shatbhisha, Revati are good for starting the house construction work.

Lagna – Aries, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio, Aquarius, and Pisces Lagna, when it is not Panchban and it is not the period of Bhoomi Shayan, and there is some beneficial planet in the centre and triangle positions, and the eighth house is beneficial when there are cruel planets in 3rd, 6th and 11th houses; such periods are good for auspicious starting of the construction work.

Bhoomi Shayan – On the days of constellations 5/7/9/12/19/26 from the constellation in which sun is situated the earth is ‘sleeping’ (Bhoomi Shayan) and on these days also during the 4/8/5/3//6/7 Ghati it is so; in remaining Ghatis it is not Bhoomi Shayan.

Days – Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday are good days to start construction work. On Sunday or Tuesday starting the work should be avoided.

It will fetch to the owner growth of all wealth and fortune along with the gain of conveyance, wealth and prosperity, sons and grandsons etc.

House construction is not allowed in singh (Leo) Lagna, it should not be started in this Lagna alone, but if the above combination is there with Singh Lagna starting of the work is auspicious. House construction started in Shukla Paksha brings happiness, while that in Krishna Paksha it brings loss. Therefore it is better to start the construction work after well consideration of the Shukla or Krishna Paksha.

For adequate air supply there should be doors, windows, ventilators, verandah, balcony, desert coolers, room coolers, air conditioners etc has to be constructed and other equipments placed according to the rules and directions given in the Vastu. Fire

Fire has its own special importance in the list of five elements. Fire means the heat or energy and the main source of it is the Sun, in this universe. The sun rays coming to the earth bring this energy down to the earth. These sun rays give light and heat to all the living beings and help them survive on the earth. In our ancient epics, fire has been given a distinct status in auspicious tasks. Every auspicious task has the provision of performing hawan.

The humans used to eat raw food like vegetables, fruits, edible tree roots or flesh before the invention of fire. After the invention of fire human started to cook and eat the food.

In Vaastu, south-east is defined as the place of fire or the fire nook hence all the activities related to fire should be performed in that particular corner of the house; for example, the kitchen should be placed in this direction and the stove should be put in the fire nook of kitchen. If the water well serves enough water to quench people’s thirst then the person who gets it constructed is freed from all his bad deeds.If that water well is constructed at an anhydrous place then the human gets the heavenly pleasures till eternity. Constructing water-well, step-well or a reservoir for the common man is very sacramental and the person who does something like this for common man improves his existence in all the realms of life.

Offering water is such a saintly act which eradicates all the sinful acts. It is very important for the lord of the house to arrange enough water for executing all the domestic work. Vastu defines the direction from where the fresh water should be sourced and the drainage of dirty water as well. If the fresh water in use is affected by the sunrays in the daytime and moon rays in the night then the water is considered very good for health. Earth is divided well in terms of land and water. Whenever its equation is changed then the human has to face natural calamities like flood or drought.

Earth (Land)

Earth is a planet that revolves around the Sun. Scientists believe that the earth is a huge magnet and the presence of magnet inside the earth’s core gives it the magnetic properties. So while constructing a building or house whatever element has to be supplied from a given direction should actually be supplied through that direction. And this is the only way that this will benefit the process of construction otherwise it will definitely bring in a certain degree of harm.

Therefore constructing any house or putting up town, city or country etc requires the vaastu description based on these directions and the 5 elements only.

For constructing the house one has to carefully examine the five elements mentioned above. This will keep the people living in the house healthy, successful, prosperous and mentally strong. Since principle of vaastu is based on these 5 elements it is important that one maintains a balance of all these 5 elements while constructing the house.

Here are some suggestions based upon beliefs of Vastu for Wealth, which if followed will bless the residents of a building with wealth and prosperity.

• North is the direction governed by the deity of wealth viz. Kuber so keep this direction clutter free and avoid building toilet and a staircase in this area.

• Never locate any underground water tank, well or a swimming pool in Southwest direction.

• Avoid locating a cash box or Tijori under a beam as that puts undue financial stress on the residents.

• Place the locker, Tijori or cabinet with money along the South wall or Southwest corner of the room so that its door open towards the North or northeast direction.

• It is believed that placing a mirror in front of the cash box, tijori or cabinet with money doubles the wealth.

• A building of any kind in the Northeast of your house can cause loss of wealth. In actual fact the shadow of that building falling on your house can cause loss of wealth.

• The two walls at the Northeast corner must join together at right angle to each other. Avoid making this joining in the curved form.

• The ground level of the building as well as its roof must slope from Southwest to Northeast. In other words the level at Southwest should be higher than that at the Northeast.

• Keep the South and West side boundary walls thicker and higher than those in the North and East direction.

• The plinth level of the building must be kept higher than any road in front of the building.

• High rising trees if any should only be in the Southwest portion. This stabilizes the financial position and also avoids misfortunes. Such trees in the North or northeast direction disrupt inflow of wealth.

• It is a good practice to keep the central part of a building free from construction and clutter. There can be an open space instead of rooms.

• Dirty windows and doors obstruct free in flow of wealth.

• Immediately repair any type of water leakage from taps, tanks or water pipes to avoid unwanted expenses and losses.

• Keep feed and water for birds at some place in the house preferably in the North to attract wealth.
