How do we celebrate?

The festival Mouni Amavasya is celebrating in tribute to Saint Manui; who is the creator of the world. On this day people who are fasting, they should take bath preferably in Gangasor river Yamuna. They should not speak all the day, this is the most important aspect of Mouni Amavasya; even whispering is prohibited in this fast. The devotees who are observing this fast are getting religious benefit and along with that they are getting the habit of short conversation. An Indian mystic poet and Saint Kabeer daas has said something on this matter:

Kabeer's couplet

Ati ka bhala na bolana Ati ki bhali na chup
Ati ka bhala na barasana Ati ki bhali na dhoop

By doing this fast one can increase the speech power and self power. On this day, take black Sesame seeds and jaggery, mix them together, take some money and tie all these things in a red cloth and donate it to the Brahmins.
