Importance of the Month of Kartik
In Hinduism, Kartik month is having important place and it is said:
Maasanaam kartikah shreshtho devanam madhusudanah|
Teerth narayanaakhyam hi tritayam durlabham kalau||
In other words: It is said that Kartik Snan is as glorious as Lord Vishnu himself or his pilgrimages. The month of Kartik is considered very beneficial for the worshipers of lord Vishnu. There is no other month as the month of Kartik, no other era as the Satya-yug, no other science as Vedas and no other pilgrimage as the Ganges:-
Na kartiksamo maaso na kriten samam yugam|
Na vedsadrisham shaastram na teertham gangayaa samam||
When Kartik begins
According to the astrological calculations, Kartik month begins when Soorya Narayan (lord of Sun) arrives at Libra. In this year it begins from 24th October 2010, Sunday.
Kartik in mythology
The nobility of Kartik is described in 'Padma-Purana' (myths of Padma) and 'Skand-Purana' (myths of Skanda). In this month, ladies are worshiping Radha-Damodar after bathing in brahma-muhurat. The fasting of Karthink month is considered as the mean of enlightenment in the period of latter day. According to the mythology, the month of Kartik is providing all four kinds of benefits – religious, economic, sex and enlightenment. It is full of all the qualities and it is said by Narayana himself to Brahma, Brahma to Narada and by Narada to sovereign Prithu.
Remedies of Kartik month
To release from all kind of dismay there are many remedies described in our Vedas and the importance of Kartic Snan is also described in it. It has also been stated that those fasts and do the ritual of ablution on this day, should follow some rules and restrains e.g., in the month of Kartik worshiping of God is done in Brahm-Muhurat after bathing in a river, pond, canal, puddle or bathroom.
Ritual of Kartik month
Those ladies who are fasting on this day are listens the Vrat Katha of Kartikeyan on the Akshay Nawmi under the tree of Amla (Emblic myrobalan). Where cereals and money has been given to the Brahmins, there is also a ritual of secret donation. Secret donation is made by hiding the money inside the ash guards. In a same way, food is also served to the unmarried boys and girls under the Amla Tree. However, there is a provision to give donation throughout the month.
Celebrations of Kartik month
The month of Kartik is important in many ways among other months. It is a tradition of celebrating the festival of lights on this month's new moon. This grand festival of lights is celebrated by everyone as 'Dipawali'. It is said that on the day of Dipawali Maa Laxmi, dear to lord Vishnu visiting every-where and accomplishing all the wishes of his devotees by giving them health and wealth. Where it is explained as an eradicator of all the diseases in Vaishnav Khand of Skanda Puran, also it is said that it is helpful to get the wisdom, as a mean of wealth and to get nirvana.In the month of Kartik
, there is a provision of lighting throughout the month, this is an important ritual of Kartik. The second ritual is worshiping Tulsi. However, consumption of Tulsi is always very effective in each month, but worshiping Tulsi is having special place in the month of Karik. It is very beneficial to worshiping God with Tulsi leaves and its Manjari (Blossom); and it is very significant to plant it in this fasting. It is said that Tulsi is very dear to Lord Vishnu.
By singing devotional songs of Bhagvan Vishnu in the month of Kartik, voice gets purified. Those who devotedly fasting in this month and celebrating this festival with enthusiasm get all their wishes fulfilled.
Early morning, just before the sun rises is called as Brahma Mahurat, which means at that time, all the people are in deep sleep and nobody will disturb you so it is the best time to worship the God. The atmosphere is sacred because the vibrations of mind involved in world matters are not emitted from the people since they are in deep sleep.
