2010 Sagittarius Period of Confusion
Mercury moves into his retrograde phase three times a year as a rule, for about three weeks each time. This year Mercury hits reverse four times, which is quite unusual. The retro phase marks a time of confusion and misunderstandings, which can affect arrangements, travel, transport, appliances, machinery and communications. The breakdowns that occur are a function of neglect, inattention, simple misunderstandings or component failure. They will often bring to the fore the very contingency we should have planned for—and didn't. During the retro period, and even for a week or two before and after, in the Mercury Shadow, we need to be aware of this tendency. It is best to put off major decisions, or signing crucial documents and agreements. It is not exactly wise to make important decisions while Mercury is retrograde, since it is likely they will be clouded by misinformation, poor communication and careless thinking. Mercury is all about mental clarity and the power of the mind, so when Mercury is retrograde these intellectual characteristics tend to be less acute than usual. Make sure you pay attention to the small print!
Mercury's first retro cycle begins on Boxing Day, December 26th, 2009, in Capricorn, the Sea-Goat. The majority of paper work, writing, meetings, and discussions during this period is likely to involve finances, so pay particular attention to any tricky bits. Transacting business, increasing income, conserving monetary assets, monitoring expenditures, and comparison shopping are on your agenda, but what you think and say could be the opposite of what you feel. If you need to discuss, or perhaps even defend or reassess your priorities and values, make sure to take the other party's views on board and do not dismiss them out of hand. Mercury's second reverse motion cycle begins in Taurus, the sign of the Bull, on April 18th. This phase should not be too disruptive, but can lead to disarray in schedules and assignment of tasks and responsibilities, whether related to your own work or to that of those who may work for or with you. Since your daily routine is filled with an increasing number of details, messages, and information, you need to be clear on their accuracy: be sure to note appointments and meetings in your diary. Whether or not your focus is on employment, you will or should be more concerned with organization, methods, and planning in general. Another potential concern may be gathering information about health and physical fitness or consultations with professionals in these areas. Mercury's third retro cycle begins in Virgo on August 20th, a truly cosmo-active time, when Mars and Venus are conjunct in Libra, creating merriment and flirtation amongst friends and associates, all of whom will flood the airwaves with love for you, even as noble Jupiter opposes stern Saturn. No matter how great the temptation, you should play by the rules. What is truly making you happy? You'll trumpet this to the world, but beware of treading on the horned toes of superiors, political figures and older folks, even if you see them as the problem rather than the solution. You can make good career progress by sorting out problems from the past, but the dates and times of important meetings and deadlines for publication should be carefully checked. Mercury moves forward on September 12th, with the shadow phase around till Sep 27.
Mercury's fourth and final retro phase for the year begins on December 10, 2010, in Capricorn again. A lot of issues from the past have emerged during the past twelve months, concerning your financial situation, your personal value system, and your material assets—and now is the time to get them straight so you can take advantage of Jupiter's very positive move into fiery Aries in January 2011. Be sure to make your position clear, lest some misunderstanding get you in deeper water than you'd like. Matters concerning your own personal power and influence will come to the fore, possibly in print, or other public forum. Circumstances will force you to be totally honest about what you really want.
