2010 Libra General Horoscope
Happy New Year, Libra! The year bursts into life with a lunar eclipse on New Year's Eve in canny Cancer, just as a retrograde Mars rises in fiery Libra, your house of friends, hopes and wishes. There is a lot of action for the Scales this year, especially with regard to career vs home and family, plus a strong romantic prospect, maybe even a marriage or a strong commitment, either mid-year, or in 2011. The Dragon's Head and Tail, the karmic nodes of the Moon, spend the year busying themselves in your sectors of career and public image, where changes and separations are in the wind and in the domestic arena, where big developments with residential matters, real estate and family life are to be expected.
The planetary ruler of Libra is Venus, the artistic queen of love, relationships, desire and money. Venus (desire; feminine power) meets Mars (passion; masculine power) in Libra this year, then some weeks later turns retrograde in Scorpio, still cosying up to Mars. This has definite romantic and creative overtones, but as the year begins, you may find yourself in disagreement with others over principles, or value judgments. Explain your position, but let others have an equal right to their own opinions. The potential for discord may cause strained relations over the year, but is unlikely to inspire major upsets. Agree to disagree. And let others approach you. If they flatter and compliment you, or offer a position of leadership, keep your responses modest.
Stern, structured Saturn, the Lord of Karma, is the exaltation ruler of Libra, and as the year gets under way, makes his presence felt in your own sign before turning retrograde on January 13. Saturn moves back into Virgo on March 7, beginning a period wherein you'll need to resolve the leftover bits from the past three years or so, before he returns to Libra on July 21. Jupiter, Lord of Fortune, begins the year in Aquarius widely opposing a retro Mars, so Librans can expect a remarkable year, with romantic attractions, especially from the past, or with a friend or associate. Jupiter enters his night sign, Pisces, on January 18, just as Venus enters Aquarius, so working relationships with colleagues or underlings are supported, and the general atmosphere in the workplace is positive and expansive.
Expansive Jupiter and wild-card Uranus enter Aries mid-year, sparking up your interest in partnership matters for some weeks, before returning to Pisces in August/September. This gives us a foretaste of 2011, when Jupiter dives into Aries for the year and Uranus begins a seven year trek through the fiery sign of the Ram. I will discuss this in detail in the body of the article.
2010 Libra Relationship
Mars is the ruler of your seventh house of marriage and partnership, and also the ruler of your second house of personal finances and values. The year opens with a lunar eclipse on New Year's Eve with retrograde Mars rising in fiery Libra, your eleventh house of friends, hopes and wishes, opposing the Part of Fortune. Now that's a warning not to charge ahead too quickly, or too act rashly with regard to material ends. Nevertheless, when retrograde, Mars can bring old flames back to light, especially if they were former friends, or old associates, club members or the like. The Warrior Lord turned retrograde in dramatic, egocentric Libra on December 20, 2009, and will remain retrograde until March 10. Mars stays in Libra until June 7th, a long stay, since Mars only turns retrograde once every two years and two months or so. This makes it an important but trouble-prone phase when the energy moves away from you as an individual and activates your role in the lives of others—whether as parent, lover, friend, spouse, or club member. You'll need to reduce the number of activities and people you decide to accommodate. Try not to lose patience when things become too hectic or don't proceed as planned. After all, what does make you happy? You'll go for what you want, or get rid of what you don't want, especially from March 7 to March 31, when Venus dances through the luminous sign of Aries, your seventh house of marriage and partnership. At this time Mars and Venus are in fiery signs and since Mars turns direct on March 10, the potential for forming partnerships that will fulfil your cherished desires begins to grow.
Saturn rules your house of romance and children, and begins the year in Libra, turning retrograde on January 13. This influence has as much to do with the past as it does with the present. It will force you to throw out what is wasteful and to abandon unsuccessful situations, replacing them with something more solid and useful. Be patient. Take care of things, but keep a moderate attitude or you’ll spoil the real progress you can make during this period.
Venus is in Gemini from the last week of April to the middle of May, your ninth house of foreign affairs, travel, education, cultural pursuits—and second marriages. With Mars still in Libra till June 7 many of you will feel the urge to tie the knot, perhaps for a second time and possibly to someone of a different race or culture, or whom you met whilst travelling. This will be encouraged by glorious Jupiter moving into forward-looking Aries, your house of marriage, on June 6, where he turns retrograde on July 23, leaving Aries and rolling back to Pisces on September 9. The most powerful days to consider your situation will be during the week before and after July 23, while Jupiter is stationary direct, because great progress can be made and plans instituted.
A big event close to the Full Moon on May 27th is the entry of Uranus into Aries, your seventh house of marriage, partnership and open confrontation an hour or two later—after having spent the past seven years in Pisces, turning your working life and health up and down. Disruptive, intuitive Uranus will be in Aries for a good while (seven years in fact, if we discount a few months back in Pisces due to a retro phase). Some of the effects will be immediately apparent, then drop out of sight, only to burst forth later. This transit (a foretaste of 2011) implies an unstable period for marriage, partnership and alliances of any kind, and for joint ventures. Associations may suddenly or unexpectedly begin, come to an end, or undergo big changes. Alliances may be formed with unusual partners, at least for you, and the terms of a partnership or joint venture are similarly odd. You can expect to meet unusual people or encounter unusual situations. Contracts that are signed, as well as the status of legal matters, should not be regarded as permanent: there is every chance they may not only be changed, but completely reversed. A key element of the Uranian influence has to do with outside forces over which you have no control. Change may be triggered by the actions of others, new people you meet, or situations you never expected to encounter..
Mars prances through Libra between the end of July and September 14th while Venus is in Libra too, so you'll be reconsidering your role in life, your personal self-image and your ability to influence others. This is a period when it pays to make an effort: the charm of your personality, willingness to cooperate with others and sense of humour will make a big difference. Why not indulge in a new hair style, beauty treatment, and enhance your appearance? It is important to look as gorgeous as possible, since your physical appearance will have just as big an impact as your personality. Your competitive spirit urges you to be more aggressive, perhaps even physically combative, aiming to satisfy your needs. Busy, busy. Mars and Venus are conjunct in Libra on August 20th, just as Mercury turns retrograde in Virgo, your twelfth house of secrets, sorrows and subconscious motivations. This is a banner day, so if you are partying (it's a Friday) be ready for some fantasy-fulfilling action. Don't expect it to last, but it will be fun.
On September 8th, sexy Venus slips into Scorpio, your second house of finances and values, just as mighty Jupiter moves back into Pisces in his retro phase. Mercury turns direct on the 12th, then Mars, the mighty Warrior, joins Venus in his night-throne, Scorpio, just as Pluto, the dark lord of transformation, turns direct after months of retro motion in Capricorn. A rare treat! Mars rejoices in Scorpio, where his best qualities are expressed, but with Venus slowing there in preparation for her rare retro phase, a secret romance, or at least a secret fantasy comes forward as you deal with attractions that you thought were long gone. Scorpio rules sexuality and in your chart governs marriage, partnership, open enemies and personal finances. So a secret affair is in the air, which may lead to a big commitment once revealed!
Venus turns retrograde in Scorpio on October 8th, conjunct the jealous and dangerous fixed star Zuben Algenubi (the South Scale). You will be inclined to spend up on social events, luxuries and fripperies, mainly designed to improve your sex life. Some of you will be seeking to improve your social standing, probably via a love connection. Sexual exploits will therefore follow during the retrograde phase, which lasts until November 18, when both Venus and Jupiter both turn direct. Now that will be a lucky day! Remember, however, that the Venus shadow period lasts until December 21, the solstice.
Venus in Scorpio is highly-sexed and risk-prone, so with macho Mars there too, we can expect some serious sexual shenanigans. All of which will no doubt in your case be best kept well under wraps, at least until next year (2011), when Venus enters Sagittarius and Jupiter moves into fiery Aries. A jealous love nature, intense passionate emotions, and a love of sensation, luxury and pleasures will be the flavour of the month. If you get any infections, go straight to the clinic. This period will present a powerful mating phase, but those already mated may find trouble with supposedly secret affairs coming out into the limelight, especially when Jupiter opposes Saturn on August 17-20 or thereabouts, so tread carefully.
Mars is moving forward rapidly by the end of October 2010, entering Sagittarius on October 28, just as Venus is cuddling up to the Sun in Scorpio. This will greatly increase your popularity with neighbours and locals, and may incline you to travel, especially once Venus and Jupiter turn direct on Nov. 18. On November 29, Mars squares Jupiter, so avoid undue risk-taking, especially with money, work and health. Do not take risks if you cannot afford to suffer the consequences of the potential loss. The point to remember (and possibly avoid while under this influence) is that your inherent tendency toward expansive gestures will be enhanced. If you are prudent you will overcome whatever physical obstacles block your path. Whether or not you succeed, at least you will not walk away empty-handed. You should take a philosophical view, as the Universe always gives us what we need, even if sometimes it fails to give us what we want, or think we want.
2010 Libra Home and Family
The Moon is the key to family matters, and the Lunar Eclipse at the opening of the year indicates that the light of the Moon is in shadow. Home and family matters will tend to be overshadowed by the demands of public and career conditions, which will undergo significant changes this year, changes that you may not seek, but which will be forced upon you by circumstance. As stated at the beginning of the article, big developments with residential matters, real estate and family life are to be expected, possibly a relocation, or a restructuring of the family unit.
Saturn, Lord of Karma, structure and solidity, is the planetary lord of your fourth house of home, family and new beginnings. Saturn begins the year in Libra, requiring you to take responsibility for who you are and what you can become. This year, you will be constantly confronted with yourself. Look in the mirror and ask yourself who is responsible for your physical appearance, your personality, and your self-image—whether you have put too much emphasis on these things, or whether you have neglected them. After you have overcome the urge to blame childhood experiences and conditioning, or whatever other people and situations come to mind, you arrive at the moment of truth—and that is, ultimately, that you are the one responsible. Do not be timid, or frightened to take control. The past becomes significantly important to the present as well as the future. If you refused to accept restrictions and limitations that were necessary for progress to be made, this year may see you regret your resistance and set about correcting your attitude. Self-discipline plays a major role. Abuse of authority in the past will have to be confronted and corrected. Ambitions must be tempered with patience and control. Be prepared for obstacles to challenge your right to the rewards of age and experience, hard work and sacrifice, and the traditions and structures that support your life-style.
Dark Pluto, Lord of Obstruction, Transformation and ultimately Regeneration, is square Saturn in your fourth house. Circumstances may force you to make a complete break from the past, but not before it has been confronted and dealt with openly and honestly, including destructive childhood conditioning that may be undermining your present behaviour and attitudes. Issues and events that have been buried will not stay buried. Your personal status within the family is a feature. If you feel your position is or has been one of weakness or vulnerability you will attempt to strengthen it. This process may mean that family ties are either broken, or thanks to your new awareness, they will ultimately become more powerful and close.
Home must now be a place that reflects your personal influence and control, either literally or figuratively. Renovation and repair of home or real-estate property may be part of the way you deal with the past. Control of family property and resources may become an issue of intense interest. You will no doubt make a new start in life, but no matter what the reasons are that force you to start over, it will ultimately give you the personal growth and power you seek. Some of you will experience potent changes with status or wealth, either with money directly or in the value of assets or resources, such as the home. Others will find that older members of the family, grandparents especially may feature in proceedings or changes. Children are not so well-favoured for Libra this year, as the emphasis is on you and your combinations—whether partnership vs self-image, or home vs career. 2010 Libra Work and Health
Healing Jupiter, the ruler of your sixth house of work and health, enters Pisces, his night-sign, on January 18, greatly improving all aspects of work, working relationships and dealings with co-workers, underlings and related professionals. Jupiter remains in Pisces until June 6, when the Lord of Fortune speeds into Aries for several weeks, returning to Pisces on September 9. While in Pisces, the nature and scope of your work and daily responsibilities will expand. Your work may require more travel, or advanced training. You may hire others to work for you at this time, and your relationships with co-workers are expanded in one way or another. Keep your sense of self-importance well in hand. Although there is certainly an excellent chance that your work will be recognized and handsomely rewarded, do not take your job or any aspect of it for granted.
You may acquire a pet or increase your activities involving a pet, or the breeding of such animals. Though there is no guarantee you will actually pursue it, your interest concerning health and physical fitness may increase, but it is more than likely you will take your health too much for granted. Should circumstances require you to seek medical care or advice, you may be fortunate in finding excellent physicians or other professionals to help you.
Venus enters Pisces on February 12, and for the ensuing four weeks, you'll want to put harmony into your working environment. An office romance, or social event connected with co-workers may be on your agenda. Beautifying the work place is high on the list: anything from major renovation and redecoration projects to just putting fresh paint on the walls, installing background music and adding plants or art work to brighten the surroundings. A new diet and physical fitness program, or other personal physical enhancements such as beauty treatments, a new hair style, dental work, and cosmetic surgery are favoured.
Mars is retrograde as the year begins, so you need to maintain a pleasant attitude to friends and associates during the first six months, as the temptation will be to become impatient and even give way to anger. In no area of life is the emotion of anger more dangerous to one's life and health. You need to come to terms with life's problems and bring peace into your circle of friends. Mars rules acute conditions: infections, wounds, burns, accidents and violence. In this position, Mars here signals obstruction of the circulation, heart and back complaints, poorly oxygenated blood, varicose veins, pains and cramps in the legs. If you are standing in a situation you dislike, discouraged and overburdened, the resolution is to stand in truth while you circulate freely, letting go of those who are not helping you.
As the year draws on, Mars and Venus become close. The sorts of afflictions to guard against, particularly while Venus is retrograde in Scorpio during October and November will be infections, especially the kidneys and urinary systems, fevers, sexually transmitted diseases, and injuries caused by jealous types. Ugh.
Saturn is in Libra for most of the year, so this affects your self-image and health to some degree. Saturn rules chronic, hard-to-shift patterns and problems that are restrictive, depressing and limit mobility. What you need to remember is that you are the one in charge of keeping your body fit and your appearance as attractive as possible. You are also the one who is responsible for your own behaviour, attitudes, and reactions to responsibilities. You are the one who must seek to understand and correct a poor self-image, as well as any other personal flaws you may have. The highest reward for correct actions will be your emergence as a more mature, productive individual with a definite idea of the directions your personal growth must take now, and in the future. One more warning: this influence can cause you to worry too much, not only about yourself but about everything else as well. or exhaustion and don’t mistake being active for being exercised or toned. They’re not the same thing! Even if you're tired from the daily demands, you still need to work the body and tone the muscles. Don't be so busy that you can't take care of yourself. If you have persistent problems or find you're fatigued, take steps to put things right and change your routines. It may be a matter of simply adding something to the pot for some while others may opt to change lifestyle, activity or employment. You may seek a new kind of environment for yourself and your work. Be prepared for changes that you're not quite ready or able to undertake.
2010 Libra Career and Finances
Cancer is the sign on your mid-heaven, the house of career and public image. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, and the Moon is eclipsed on the mid-heaven just as the year begins. It's a south node eclipse, as the Moon's south node will be slowly travelling through Cancer until March 2011. In fact the eclipses this year will be mainly concerned with changes and resolutions of the conflicts between home and career, or domestic and public image. Because the Moon's light is dimmed at this eclipse, we can expect to see alterations in your career direction, almost as though by the hand of fate. The phases indicated by the eclipses will generate quite significant developments in your career, probably changes and separations. See Eclipse section.
Mars rules your personal finances, beginning the year in retrograde motion in your eleventh house, suggesting that issues from the past will be a major influence that will affect your monetary condition and your earning capacity. Mars remains in Libra until the second week of June, encouraging you to go for it, when seeking to actualise your personal goals, hopes and wishes. Your career

should increase, but due to the plethora of retro phases, issues from the past and connected with hidden or concealed concerns will make themselves felt.
Venus rules other people's money and joint ventures, shared funds, etc., in your chart and will present an ambitious facade this year, one which will come to quite a striking point during October and November, when Venus is retrograde and travelling in conjunction with Mars. This period will greatly increase your concentration of funds, and will see you spending up big, as discussed in other sections.
Uranus changes sign to Aries at the end of May, relieving the pressure on your working relationships for a while, but signalling some upheavals in partnership situations. Jupiter follows him into Aries some days later, which evens out the flow somewhat and makes the general energy easier and more fortunate, at least until they both turn retrograde, Uranus on July 5 and Jupiter on July 23. When the retro phase is on, the influence of other people and of circumstances tends to become stronger, as decisions made earlier take effect.
Jupiter's influence is discussed in the preceding section, but brings a sense of expansion to your working environment and will see you doing well this year, with a push to forming a partnership or joint venture between June and September, when Jupiter tests the temperature of fiery Aries, a precursor of the situation in 2011.
It is likely that you will chane your career this year, and possibly your residence. Financial matters will have their ups and downs, but should improve overall.
