2010 Capricorn Period of Confusion
Mercury moves into retrograde motion three times a year as a rule, for about three weeks each time. This year sees Merc travelling in reverse four times, which is unusual. The retro phase marks a time of confusion and misunderstandings, which can affect arrangements, travel, transport, appliances, machinery and communications. The breakdowns that occur are a function of neglect, inattention, simple misunderstandings or component failure. They will often bring to the fore the very contingency we should have planned for—and didn't. During the retro period, and even for a week or two before and after, in the Mercury Shadow, we need to be aware of this tendency. It is best to put off major decisions, or signing crucial documents and agreements. It is not exactly wise to make important decisions while Mercury is retrograde, since it is likely they will be clouded by misinformation, poor communication and careless thinking. Mercury is all about mental clarity and the power of the mind, so when Mercury is retrograde these intellectual characteristics tend to be less acute than usual. Make sure you pay attention to the small print!
Mercury's first retro cycle begins on Boxing Day, December 26th, 2009, in your own sign of the Sea-Goat. You have no doubt been experiencing an increase in communications and activities, for your name is on everyone's lips—and not just because it's Christmas. A boost in self-esteem and willpower sees you expressing yourself in positive terms. Travel and communications are closely linked with your ego and personal goals, so be sure to keep a weather eye open for what others may be doing, lest there be misunderstandings and path-crossings. Especially around January 4–9, you strongly identify with ideas that reflect your own thoughts and feelings—needing a more aggressive or a more dramatic forum to express your ideas. Resist the temptation to nick other people's creative ideas and put them forward as your own, especially in the workplace. Should purchasing a car or travel tickets be on your agenda, you'll be looking at more expensive models—and first class tickets. Don't miss the bus, or plane as the case may be. The Divine Messenger turns direct again on January 15, at the Capricorn New Moon, which is conjunct the benefic planet Venus. It's a good day to start over, but remember that the shadow phase lasts until Feb 4.
Mercury's second reverse motion cycle begins in Taurus, the sign of the Bull, on April 18th. Venus is at home in Taurus, so romantic favours are on your mind. Make sure you don't keep too many balls in the air, as Ceres is stationary preparing to turn retrograde and Venus is about to move forward into Gemini, the sign of dual attractions. Creative writing or speaking projects may be part of the scenario, but be sure all the equipment is working well and that the dates are noted in your diary. It is also a time of increased communication or travel with a romantic partner, or with children, or social groups. You have a masterful grasp of organisation, so be sure to keep all your schedules together and properly annotated. A vacation may include a guided tour, or feature some other type of educational experience. Plans, discussions, and business transactions at this time may involve entertainment projects, social events, children's education or activities, or speculative ventures, probably needing some readjustment as issues from the past challenge your plans. Mercury moves forward on May 11th, with the shadow lasting till May 29.
Mercury's third retro cycle begins in Virgo on August 20th, under the influence of the opposition between Jupiter and Saturn on your MC/IC axis. This creates issues regarding the role of family versus career, with some unexpected hijinks from the influence of Uranus, the ancient sky-king. Bad timing, past failures, authority figures, or simply a lack of generosity somewhere along the line frustrate your personal growth, economic prosperity, spiritual fulfilment, and intellectual endeavours. It may be a time when you are expected to give back some of the prosperity or success you have gained to help others get ahead. This may be costly and hard to do, but the need to deal with the past and prepare for the transition to a new level next year is strong. Mercury moves forward on September 12th, with the shadow phase around till Sep 27.
Mercury's fourth and final retro phase begins on December 10, 2010, in Capricorn again. A lot of important issues from the past have emerged during the year, chiefly concerning your partnership relations, legal matters, and battle for recognition of your true potential—and now is the time to put them into order. Be sure to make your position clear, lest some misunderstanding get you in deeper water than you'd like. Plan travel well in advance, and be sure to have the agendas confirmed in writing. Don't leave things till the last minute, especially Christmas and New Year arrangements. Mercury returns to direct motion in Sagittarius on December 30th, with the shadow phase dogging your footsteps until January 18th. Have a wonderful Christmas and an excellent year ahead in 2011!
2010 Capricorn Turning Point
Your New Moon comes on Jan 15th, a Solar Eclipse. This is a massively potent phase for you, as there are *8* significant planetary factors in Capricorn at the time of the eclipse. The Sun and Moon are closely conjunct Venus, so your personal magnetism and physical charm are enhanced—and even though the Solar Eclipse marks leaving something behind and starting anew, the social energies are strong, as Mercury turns direct today in Capricorn after some weeks of retro motion. Phew! Don't forget that the shadow phase lasts until Feb. 4. Attending a concert, art or fashion show may be on the agenda. Partners or other allies are supportive, helping you attain personal goals and improve your self-image. Avoid any tendency for self-indulgence, or overstating your own importance and attractiveness, perhaps to the detriment of those in close relationships with you.
I'd say it will be a pretty hot weekend, when you can easily dominate the romantic scene. Just don't overdo it and turn the whole situation into little more than an ego-trip. Saturn is stationary, having just turned retrograde in Libra, the sign on your mid-heaven, so it's ideal to plan or implement career decisions this week, especially as fortunate Jupiter enters Pisces on Monday, beginning a highly communicative phase for you.
Your Full Moon comes on June 26th, a Lunar Eclipse, with the Moon right on dark Pluto. Expect partnership and marital relations to be rather prickly. Others will stand in your way if you try to get to the bottom of things. Save research and investigation, or engaging in power plays, until another time. Don't expect success if you want to dig up the past, or try to collect a debt. Psychological analysis, recycling, renovation or restoration projects are not favoured either. Others will be intimidated by (or envious of) your self-control—or any power you have. It will not be to your advantage to arouse such feelings on purpose, but what can you do about it if some people insist on feeling that way? Don’t waste your time trying to salvage egos.
Nevertheless, this is a good time for planting seeds. Trust your instincts. Stay focused and dedicated.

Eclipses of both the Sun and the Moon often indicate the end of a cycle or a significant change in the direction or pattern of the affairs governed by the house in which the eclipse falls. Eclipses of the Moon affect matters connected with home, family and emotions as well as relations with women and children, and with the public at large. Both may affect your health.
The year begins with Lunar Eclipse at the Full Moon in emotional Cancer on Dec 31, New Year's Eve 2009, an emotional release to a difficult period indeed! The Full Moon in Cancer is always an emotional time and this is magnified by the darkening of the face of the Moon as the shadow of the eclipse passes across its face. Cancer is your opposite number in the zodiac, the sign that governs marriage, partnership and open enmity, for the two are quite related, as anyone who has experienced them can vouch. The pattern of eclipses focuses on you and your opposite throughout the year, placing a major emphasis on your self-image and on your partnership relations. Mercury is retrograde in your sign, in a difficult aspect to Mars, which is also retrograde. Be sure to keep all financial matters close to your chest, as there will be misunderstandings that can lead to trouble up until the Solar Eclipse of January 15, when retro Mercury turns direct again. Though your emotional life will no doubt be greatly affected by what you do during this period, the real focus and driving force is your ego. If, for example, a relationship comes apart during this period, it may not be due to the lack of love or affection, but because your ego was not allowed to grow or exert itself within the relationship. Phew! Avoid any tendency for self-indulgence, or overstating your own importance and attractiveness, perhaps to the detriment of those in close relationships with you. Anything connected with computers, communications, writing assignments, mechanical and design projects, education, and training will be subject to disruption, thanks to a square from Saturn on the mid-heaven. Correspondence is unlikely to arrive on time and written material is more difficult, or other issues make it hard to deal with the tasks at hand. If travel is delayed, don't cancel the trip; simply work your schedule around the changes or inconveniences. Frustration may accompany business or commercial enterprises, community activities, meetings or seminars, and matters involving siblings and neighbours. Trying to get things to run smoothly will to present a few problems. A change of heart can bring it all to a halt. You may have to cope with activities that conflict with others you have scheduled. Even if you follow directions, you can end up in exactly the place you didn't want to be. You had better prepare to deal with situations that block the path of your progress, literally or figuratively. Tread carefully this month, for on the day of the eclipse, Mercury and Jupiter are under severe pressure. Don't let the frustration bog you down in detail. Be ready for a big transformation in your partnership and legal contacts this month.
A Solar Eclipse comes with the New Moon in Cancer on July 11th. Good news should bring you financial benefit, but marriage, partnership, legal matters and family or domestic conditions will be subject to change or a cyclical ending, especially given that Jupiter is preparing to turn retrograde conjunct disruptive Uranus in fiery Aries on July 23rd. New interests or activities will shift your focus, and a complete reconstruction of your life, especialy with regard to career, as well as home and family is about to open up, at least temporarily—a foretaste of the flavouer of 2011. The Cancer New Moon always marks a time of emotional conflict for the Goat, and since this is a Solar Eclipse, you would be well-advised to stay out of the law courts and avoid upsetting your spouse or partner if you can.
A Lunar Eclipse comes with the Full Moon in Gemini on December 21st, the Solstice, awakening an unexpected outburst or upset with regard to hidden or concealed matters, especially connected with work, institutions, or with those who bear concealed hostility, for the eclipse is square to disruptive Uranus and overconfident Jupiter. Mercury and Jupiter are both under pressure, just as they were at the Solar Eclipse in June, so this should bring matters that have been bubbling beneath the surface to a very visible head. You may be tempted to exaggerate your social status, professional position, intellectual accomplishments, or monetary assets. Restlessness and discontent, or others you wish to impress, may bring this on. Make an effort to minimize the damage. Work harder; be prepared to demonstrate your knowledge or skills to those in charge. The chances of winning a contest, or cashing in on speculative ventures at this time are slim. If you do emerge a winner, do not push your luck. Take the money and quit while you are ahead. Do not let your emotions go overboard, or swing to one extreme or the other. The truth is that everything is probably in place. Whatever doesn’t seem to work may be a false impression, or at least a situation that is not impossible to overcome. Keep going and you’ll achieve whatever aims you have in mind.
